  • High-precision angular contact thrust ball bearing supports ball screw units in machine tool applications
  • Ball contact angle of 60 degrees relative to the inner and outer raceways increases thrust load capacity
  • Open configuration for lubrication applied in place
  • Polyamide resin retainer evenly spaces balls for reduced friction, vibration, and noise
  • ISO class 4 tolerance rating for precise tool positioning and high rotational speeds

This NSK single-row angular contact thrust ball bearing with a 60-degree contact angle, open design, and polyamide resin cage is designed to support ball screw units in precision machine tool applications. The 60-degree contact angle of the balls in relation to the raceways and the full ball complement provide axial rigidity to minimize tool deflections. Lower frictional torque than cylindrical or tapered roller bearings give this bearing smooth and accurate rotation with less driving force. The open design facilitates lubricating the bearing in place and dissipating heat, and the molded polyamide resin retainer evenly spaces balls for reduced friction, vibration, and noise. This cage type can be used at operating temperatures up to 120 degrees C (250 degrees F). Made of NSK’s own EP steel manufactured with reduced nonmetallic inclusions, this bearing has a universal bearing arrangement with the same offset ground on the front and back faces to allow for various bearings arrangements, such as front-to-front or back-to-back. The bearing has a dimensional and running accuracy rating to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) class 4 for a higher level of precision than bearings manufactured to normal tolerances, reducing runout for precise tool positioning. This ball screw support bearing is suitable for use in machine tool applications including driving mechanisms, robotic devices, and precision measuring equipment, among others.

Rolling bearings use rolling elements to maintain the separation between moving parts to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. These elements can be one of the following types: ball, cylindrical, spherical, barrel, needle, spindle, or tapered. All rolling bearings are open, shielded, or sealed. Sealed bearings are lubricated with oil or grease in the bearing factory, while open and shielded bearings are meant to be lubricated in place, with periodic reapplication of lubrication, based on use. The shield protects the working parts of the bearing from environmental debris that may be introduced and could reduce the ball bearing speed and lifespan. Rolling bearings are used in a range of applications from agricultural machinery to conveying equipment, robotics, dental equipment, elevators, rolling mills, ship rudder shafts, and aggregate crushers, among others.

NSK manufactures ball and roller bearings, linear guides, and other components for automotive and industrial applications. The company, founded in 1916 in Japan, has offices in Ann Arbor, MI.
